The United States Soccer Federation released the full details and schedule for the 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the second oldest domestic soccer tournament in the world behind England's Football Association (FA) Cup.
A total of 68 teams will take part in the 2013 tournament, up from 64 last season. This also marks the second consecutive year that all eligible teams from Divisions I, II, and III in the United States soccer pyramid will participate in the cup.
For Orlando City fans, the Lions will enter the US Open Cup in the Second Round on Tuesday May 21st against an opponent and at a location to be determined. Unlike in previous years of the tournament the new format will use random selection to determine the home team for each match, similar to the format used for the FA Cup.
Orlando City exited both the 2011 and 2012 tournaments in the Third Round with road loses at FC Dallas and Sporting KC, respectively. With the new format the Lions may or may not host any match from the Second Round forward up to and including the final.
The Lions will find out their opponent and location following the Second Round matches on Tuesday May 14th.
