Chelsea v Man City in New York

UPDATE: The match is OFFICIAL as of 04-08-2013. Information on tickets and packages are available on the Yankees soccer website mentioned at the end of this article.

After the announcement yesterday of Chelsea and Manchester City playing a friendly in St. Louis on May 23rd we immediately heard that a second match would be in New York. That was confirmed this morning when several sources reported the two premier league clubs would play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Saturday May 25th.

For Chelsea it is their second trip to Yankee Stadium in as many years as they faced Paris Saint-Germain in the Bronx on July 22nd playing to a 1-1 draw. Manchester City previously played nearby in 2010 at Red Bull Arena as part of the New York Football Challenge losing both matches.

There are rumors that Manchester City have additional reason for this tour beyond just the friendlies with Chelsea. We reported several weeks ago that Major League Soccer was close to announcing a deal with an ownership group for the 20th team in Queens. There are strong indications that Manchester City's owners have submitted the winning bid for the team, a fee in excess of $100M, and the announcement might come as part of their tour in May.

Ticket information for the New York match has not been posted yet but should be available through this website when it does. We will keep you posted on the latest news for all the tours coming to North America this summer, make sure to check out our "2013 Summer Friendlies" page for a complete listing.
