Welcome back again Scoring Third faithful, to the 17th edition of this year's Front Money Friday. I'm not sure if this weekend will quite top the excitement (and other parts disappointment) last week's Manchester Derby added. Or the drama that unfolded across the pond in Brazil. But this weekend still has some excellent fixtures in store for you. Let us take a look at my predictions for this weekend's Barclays Premier League.
Liverpool vs. Aston Villa
After a Europa League victory over Udinese last week and a grinded-out win over league opposition West Ham United on the weekend, The Reds look ready to welcome Aston Villa to Anfield come tomorrow. Even after a stunning victory over Norwich in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, The Claret and Blue do not seem ready to pull out three points over in Merseyside. Can Liverpool continue their winning ways under Rodgers?
The Gamble: Liverpool
Norwich City vs. Wigan Athletic
The Canaries play host to now relegation zoned Wigan Athletic. As far as league performance (cup not so much) goes the boys in yellow and green have down fairly well so far for themselves. I can not say the same for the Latics who barely squeezed a point out of practically hopeless Queens Park Rangers last week. Will Norwich hold their ground at Carrow Road and put another 'W' on the board once again?
The Gamble: Norwich City
Queens Park Rangers vs. Fulham
Another (granted a lot less exciting) West London Derby is in store for you this weekend! Almost definite relegation bound Queens Park Rangers dread the arrival of fellow London 'brothers' Fulham. Having sat in the 20th spot for almost the entire season so far, The Cottagers look ready to come and sweep the home club of another potential '1' in the win column. Do you think Rednapp is ever able to get The Hoops out of the red zone anytime soon?
The Gamble: Fulham
Stoke City vs. Everton
Your very own Geoff Cameron and the rest of the boys in red and white take on The Toffees as they travel to Britannia Stadium. The boys in blue are currently sitting pretty in a Champions League qualifying spot, but The Potters have been on good form as of late. The only slight tarnish being only getting a point out of Aston Villa last fixture. There is also their passionate and vibrant supporters chanting behind them. Can Pulis and his men hold strong at home?
The Gamble: Stoke City
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Swansea City
Swansea takes a trip across borders to The Spurs' White Hart Lane on Sunday. The away club is coming off a 1-0 win against Championship side Middlesbrough in Carling Cup action this past week. The boys in blue and white are coming off a loss against Everton on the weekend, but a Europa League three points against Greece's Panathinaikos. Currently sitting in a Europe League spot for next year, they look ready to move into Champions League.
The Gamble: Tottenham Hotspur
West Bromwich Albion vs. West Ham United
Both 'Western' clubs look to have slowed down their run of form as of late. The Hawthorns have lost their last three as West Ham have lost their last two out of three. Given that they were to Manchester United and Liverpool with a solid win over Chelsea in between, that's not too bad... I guess. We will see if West Ham can put the hammer down on a struggling West Brom.
The Gamble: West Ham United
NO BRAINERS OF THE WEEK:
Newcastle United vs. Manchester City:
The Gamble: Manchester City
Manchester United vs. Sunderland
The Gamble: Manchester United
Arsenal vs. Reading:
The Gamble: Arsenal
*Side note: Chelsea vs. Southampton that was schedule for Saturday has been postponed due to The Blues involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup against Brazil's Corinthians on Sunday.
