OFF: AC Milan v Newcastle in Pittsburgh

UPDATE 06-21-2012: AC Milan didn't wait long to reschedule there match, now they will be playing on August 4th at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA against Cruzeiro, the full story here.

Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirmed via Twitter a short time ago that the AC Milan v Newcastle United match originally scheduled for Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on Friday August 3rd is not going to happen.

Our understanding is that it was the Pittsburgh Steelers organization who were holding up the deal over concerns about having enough time to promote it and fill the stadium. While this may be partially true, the fact that Newcastle's big South African tour just folded last Friday might mean that the Magpies have big issues to deal with than a one-match tour of North America.

A little further digging has revealed that the Steelers are very interested in putting on a big summer time friendly at Heinz Field, but that it will have to wait until next summer.

As for AC Milan, rumor has it that they are looking for another venue and team to face off against in the Northeast on August 3rd or 4th. Potential locations include Gillette Stadium in Foxboro and Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

  1. Damn it. Should have played the game in Cleveland anyways. Better stadium, better city, better fans.
