We have been scouring the web to find the latest information to update you on all the Summer Friendlies scheduled for North America for the summer of 2012. As a reminder you can find our full list on our dedicated tab on our home page at the link below:
Here is the latest information we have and updates that we have posted to our list of matches.
It looks like the double-header on July 28th at FedEx Field in Landover, MD might just be a single match event after all. DC United have already posted their match against Juventus as an 8pm start time at RFK Stadium in downtown Washington. There is an outside chance the match would still be combined with the Chelsea v AC Milan match at FedEx Field, but we have heard that the organizer couldn't come to an agreement on profit sharing for all four teams.
Newcastle apparently are as hot for pre-season tour requests as their EPL season has been, and the team is still very much weighing it's options. While the Magpies came here last year, including a match in Orlando against the Lions, it looks like the money might be higher for a tour of Asia or Europe instead. Don't fret Newcastle fans, there is still a chance the team will tour North America this summer especially if they get tied into the World Football Challenge and can be guaranteed three or four high attended matches.
Speaking of the World Football Challenge, still only the Seattle and Toronto dates have been announced. The rumor mill has been going crazy with different matches and locations that might become part of the tournament. The most likely rumor so far has been a AS Roma v Celtic match at Yankee Stadium on July 28th which we have posted to our page. This would be in line with the tourney using AT&T park for the Man City v America match last summer. More dates for the WFC will likely be announced in the next two weeks as clubs wrap up their seasons.
There is about a five percent chance that Arsenal or Man City are coming to North America this summer. Arsenal have three dates nearly finalized for Asia and Man City have already confirmed two with a third on the way. In all likelihood the teams will limit their big pre-season tours to Asia and play some matches around Europe in late July or early August. The money being thrown at the teams from Asia is so massive they can't pass it up even if the competition isn't as strong as in North America.
Manchester United as been silent with far bigger fish to fry regarding the title race back home. We have heard rumors that their tour could be tied to Newcastle's tour decision so the two teams could play each other and a handful of other teams in host nations. United have always drawn well in North America, but depending on the money it might be good for the Red Devils to take a summer offer and build-up demand here for a 2013 summer tour.
Lastly, we have added another friendly, June 2nd at RFK stadium El Salvador will play Honduras in a tune-up for the Olympics. DC United star Andy Najar is likely to be called up to the men's national team and that would help draw an even stronger crowd for the match. Tickets are on sale now.
