11 Questions: Jamie Watson (Orlando City)

Courtesy of Orlando City S.C.
The fans of Orlando City have asked for it, and now we are going to give it to them. The most popular interview series on our website (yes it's the only series) is back as we put fan favorite Jamie Watson through the drills with "11 Questions".

Born in the hotbed of American soccer, Arlington, TX, Watson took a very similar path to many youth stand outs competing in local teams and some USSF sanctioned camps and teams. Following high school he attended the University of North Carolina, the ACC powerhouse, where he was named Rookie of the Year and named to the all-rookie team for the conference. Following his sophomore year he decided to enter the MLS Superdraft where he was a first round pick by Real Salt Lake where he played for three seasons. After leaving RSL he has found his way through several USL teams including Charleston, Wilmington, Austin, and now Orlando as well as a short stint back in MLS with FC Dallas. Although his first season in Orlando was limited by injuries, he still managed eight goals in seventeen appearances for the Lions including a hat trick against Harrisburg last August. For all of his work between the end lines, perhaps his biggest contribution is off the pitch where he is a vital member of Orlando City's community outreach program. Whether making appearances at soccer camps, schools, or fundraisers, Watson is very much the face of the team and a major part of their success.

I once won the pinewood derby when I was six and I helped an old lady cross the street last week. Your accolades are all well and good Mr. Watson, but "11 Questions" is the true litmus test to your worth in this town. Let's see how he made out!

1. South Africa had the Jabulani, Mexico had the Azteca, but what would you name the official World Cup ball next time it is played in the US?
I think it would have to be something that symbolizes the US. So either over-priced-gas official match ball or the were-the-best-country-ever match ball. Both have a nice ring to it and are facts.

2. What sport would you be playing if you didn't play soccer?
I would love to be a pro tennis player. I love the game. Or maybe ping pong since it’s pretty much the same game, minus the running and hot sun. On second thought, it would definitely be ping pong!

3. I don't always drink beer, but when I do I prefer ______? (favorite beer).
Dos XX, any other answer other than Dos XX is a slap in the face to the most interesting man in the world!

4. I'll give you the shirt off my back. Which opponent's jersey have you received following a match that you cherish the most?
I collect jerseys from all my friends I play against. My dream is to frame them all in a game room/man cave in my house one day as a memorabilia type thing to show my kids and grand kids that their over-weight, balding dad really once was a pro athlete.

5. Justin Bieber might be coming to town, but who do you really want to see in concert?
This is a trick question. Clearly the answer is within the question. I'll take “The Biebs” 10 times out of 10. If loving “The Biebs” is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.

6. Put me in coach. If you were coaching yourself as a player, what area would you tell yourself to focus on for improvement?
I would tell myself to get taller.

7. Game day, 1 hour before kick-off, what's on in your headphones for motivation?
Anything is better than listening to coach Ian Fuller yelling at me before the game telling me not to mess up tonight! So any one of the 764 songs I have on my iPod shuffle will do!

8. Team spirit. Who's your favorite sports team to cheer for outside of soccer?
Dallas cowboys! Really any Dallas sports teams. But mainly the Cowboys. Sorry? I'm not sorry.

9. Chance of a lifetime. Would you give up your soccer career if you had a chance to fly into space?
Not to fly into space. I hate heights. And turbulence. And my equilibrium isn't the best. I get dizzy on the tea cups at Disney. Imagine me spinning uncontrollably for weeks on end in space. I'll pass.

10. Have it your way. Whether at home or on the road, what fast food chain are you visiting?
Chipotle. Easiest question ever. If you disagree then you have bad taste. Fact.

11. Coming to a theater near you. Who would play the part of you in a movie about your life?
Well off the bat a few names come to mind. The easiest ones are the Brad Pitts of the world. Bradley Cooper. Maybe David Beckham could make his acting debut as me as well. Who I’d like it to be is Justin Timberlake because that dude is the man. But for some reason people say I look some actor from the movie 'Never Back Down' (no idea, never saw it) named Cam Gigandet? Ladies, you tell me! Haha

You be the judge (Watson on left, Gigandet on right)
Was this the best 11 Questions interview we have ever had? Fact. Great stuff from Jamie and good luck to him and the rest of the Orlando City team as they defend their USL PRO title this season. Also a special thanks to Chris Jones in City's communications office for helping us with the interview.
