11 Questions: Andy Najar (DC United)

Courtesy of Soccer by Ives
The readers asked for it and The Scoring Third is responding. We kicked-off our new blog series, "11 Questions", with US Soccer prospect Nick May and the feedback was tremendous with more page views than any other article since we started our site back in June. So why not let the good times continue to roll with another round of "11 Questions" this time with a star from the MLS, DC United's Andy Najar.

At the age of only 17, Najar has moved up the ranks of the DCU franchise as only the second homegrown player to sign with the first team. He has 23 appearances in his first season including 5 goal playing from a hybrid midfielder-forward position for United. Najar is a shining example of the importance of a youth development program and highlights why DCU have one of the best programs in MLS. Accolades include being named to the starting XI in the USSF Youth Development Academy and being the leading scorer at the Youth Development Academy Finals in Los Angeles last year. We noted in an article in June that Najar, as a Honduran national, has a decision to make about whether to play for his native country or the United States in the next few years, perhaps joining either team for 2014 World Cup qualifying. Care packages to encourage him to join the USMNT can be sent to: Andy Najar, c/o DC United, East Capitol Street SE, Washington D.C. 20003. Just kidding, but seriously we need this kid playing for us in Brazil. The bottom line is that Najar is an exciting young player to watch and we are excited to have him take his shot at "11 Questions."
